Homemade tartare sauce
Quantities of the ingredients listed doesn't need to be exact. Its entirely up to your taste how much of each ingredient you add. Traditionally you would even add chopped boiled egg! Ive added the optional ingredients separate.
roughly 200g mayonnaise
2-3 gherkins (pickles)
half teaspoon white pepper
pinch of salt
half teaspoon dijon (french/mild) mustard
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 tablespoon chopped spring onion or onion
chopped dill and/or parsley
half teaspoon paprika
boiled egg chopped
Place all the ingredients (except onion and egg if you are using it) in the processor and blend for 30 seconds or until desired consistency. Chop the onion and egg finely and stir through last.
Method by hand:
1. Chop the gherkins and capers finely. Set aside.
2. Chop the onion, herbs and egg (if using - its optional) finely and set aside.
3. Stir the rest of the ingredients through the mayonnaise and add the chopped ingredients
Serve with fish or use the sauce to make potato salad with.
